Who We Are: Amaranthe, Three Voices From Gothenburg

· The Band

Heavy riffs, huge pop choruses and three lead vocalists in one band. That's us, Amaranthe, and we come from Gothenburg, Sweden. Here's a short guide to the band, for new listeners and old ones.

Where did we start?

We formed in Gothenburg in 2008. Guitarist Olof Mörck and singer Joacim "Jake E" Lundberg founded the band, and Elize Ryd, harsh vocalist Andreas Solveström and drummer Morten Løwe Sørensen joined them. We were first called Avalanche and changed our name to Amaranthe in May 2009, for legal reasons.

Who is in the band?

  • Elize Ryd: vocals, since 2008.
  • Olof Mörck: guitars and keyboards, since 2008.
  • Morten Løwe Sørensen: drums, since 2008.
  • Johan Andreassen: bass, since 2010.
  • Nils Molin: clean vocals, since 2017.
  • Mikael Sehlin: harsh vocals, since 2023.

Jake E sang until 2017, and Henrik Englund Wilhelmsson, known as GG6, handled the harsh vocals from 2013 to 2022.

Which albums should you know?

  • Amaranthe (2011): our self-titled debut.
  • The Nexus (2013) and Massive Addictive (2014).
  • Maximalism (2016) and Helix (2018).
  • Manifest (2020): with "Viral", "Strong" (featuring Noora Louhimo of Battle Beast), "Crystalline" and "Boom!1".
  • The Catalyst (2024): our seventh album, which reached No. 3 in Germany.

What do we sound like?

Hard to pin down, and that's the point. Critics hear melodic death metal, power metal and pop metal in the same songs. Our mission is to explore "the opaque realms between extreme metal and electronic tunes". With a female clean voice, a male clean voice and a harsh voice trading lines, every chorus hits from three sides.
